North Carolina Library AssociationInform. Connect. Support. |
Who We Are: To connect librarians with community organizations in order to form meaningful opportunities for service and generosity across North Carolina. | LBC In Action: NCLA's Librarians Build Communities committee often tries to "give back" to the city hosting our biennial conference by partnering with a local organization, such as Second Harvest Food Bank. |
2019 Community Partner: Forsyth Backpack Program |
Our Community Partner's Mission: Forsyth Backpack Program is a local all volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides nutritious food on weekends and holidays to local school children who have been identified by school personnel as being in need of food. Without FBP, these children may have little to no access to food (healthy or otherwise) over weekends or long holidays. With the food, the children return to school better ready to pay attention, learn, and play. | LBC's Supporting Projects: To help with Forsyth Backpack Program's efforts, this year LBC aims to raise $7,000 money that will be matched by FBP's donor network to ultimately purchase 400 cases of food—enough food to pack 3,200 backpacks with 12,800 meals. In addition to providing weekend meals for the 425 students most often served by FBP, these backpacks will provide nearly 1200 students in up to 28 schools food for over their Thanksgiving break. |
There are three ways to support FBP: |
