Old Business:
Board
members discussed NCLA Conference plans:
-
Jeanie announced that BLINC will offer a
pre-conference workshop “Business 101.”
- Frannie Ashburn has all
the completed forms for the three RASS programs.
- For the RASS Luncheon
program, Random House Audio is paying for George Guidall’s fee,
transportation, and room. RASS will have no expenses beyond some printing
costs; therefore, the Board agreed to subsidize the luncheon at NCLA and to
give especially nice door prizes such as MP3 player, audiobooks and/or gift
certificates, flash drive - to go with the presentation by Golden Voice Award
winner George Guidall. After luncheon costs are decided, the board will decide
on what to spend for door prizes.
- To encourage RASS
memberships, a door prize will be given at the Luncheon to a person whose
name is drawn from the new members of RASS.
- RASS will sponsor a
Consumer Health Portal Roundtable
Discussion program organized by Jason
Sokolove. Jason said it concerns a consumer health portal that should go up in
June and has been sponsored by a grant from LSTA. It is being overseen by a
steering committee of mostly academic but with some public librarians. He
wants this to be a panel discussion concerning this portal.
RASS will have no duties except to be a presence at the program.
- Jeanie will contact
Joline and Kathleen Wheeless from Forsyth Public Library to plan the panel
discussion workshop. Tentative plans are to use an outline that Jeanie adapted
from another workshop and to include role-playing or skits. Many handouts will
be available. Jeanie hopes to bring a former trainee to participate in the
panel discussion.
Nominations
are needed for upcoming openings on the RASS Board.
The Board
made several nominations; however, two more are needed. Jonathan and Janie will
send an email to NCLA members asking for volunteers and/or nominations. Officers
serve for 2 years and Directors serve for 4 years. The following offices will be
