Public Library Section Report 10-18-2002
The PLS Planning Council met in Wilmington August 10.
The Council
briefly discussed the PLS Mission Statement as contained in the NCLA Handbook.
To unite NCLA members interested in public libraries.
To provide an opportunity for discussion and activity.
To seek to fulfill the objectives of NCLA .
PLS held a preservation/disaster preparedness workshop in May Memorial Library, Burlington, September 12, with David James as presenter. Attendance was good and all went well.
Jeanne Crisp reported on State Library activities and upcoming opportunities.
Young Adult and Technical Services Committees are very active and starting to kick around ideas for the conference. Both Reference and Branch Committees have held open workshops to see what librarians in their fields need and want to do within NCLA. The Branch and AudioVisual Committees have set up list-serves for interested NC librarians to participate in.
The PLS website at NCLA has been expanded and updated.
Next meeting will be in Burlington, November 15.
