Public Library Section report

The PLS Planning Board met at the renovated Archdale Public Library, Randolph County Public Library, 10 May 2002.

Major items discussed included the proposed NCLA Charter School resolution. The Board also voted to pay travel expenses for State Library employees to attend PLS meetings and any special PLS meetings or programs they are invited to attend. The Board voted to contribute $500 to help NCLA pay for a library lobbying effort this summer. The Board voted in favor of a $600 scholarship contribution to the NCLA Leadership Institute.

Priscilla Lewis is in charge of arrangements for the PLS Disaster Preparedness Workshop by Robert James to be held at the Burlington Public Library, Thursday, 12 September. Lynn Thompson will help with publicity. Robert Burgin has agreed to do a program for PLS at the NCLA conference on The New Planning for Results.

The Audiovisual, Technical Services, Branches, Government Relations, and Young Adult committees all reported favorably on their activities. Since the meeting, Amy English of the Randolph County Public Library has become PLS webmaster and has prepared new web pages in consultation with the NCLA webmaster. The Technical Services Committee's directory of public library technical service resources has also been completed and posted at http://www.nclaonline.org/publibsec/TSDir2002Contents.htm.

The Planning Board will meet again on Friday, 9 August, Northeast Regional Library, New Hanover County Public Library, Wilmington, at 11:00.
