M. J. Goodrum demonstrated how to download e-audio bibliographic records as well as how to download Net Library/Recorded Books e-audiobooks; Amy Dankowski of Overdrive and Marie Spencer discussed training and troubleshooting; Dan McCaffrey of Recorded Books provided a look at gathering NetLibrary use statistics; Sherrie Antonowicz, Dan McCaffrey and Ruth Ann Copley discussed playaways and other e-audio options. After a question and answer session, George Guidall rounded out the workshop by discussing his adventures as a narrator and reading one his recent works, thanks to Recorded Books. Creative Zen MP-3 players were sold at cost + shipping to registrants.

Preconference introduced libraries to the concept of streaming audiobooks; discussed vendors and their products and examined the budget alternatives, benefits and necessary equipment for the new technology; addressed purchases by individual libraries vs. consortial purchasing.

Panel discussion by committee members on the following subjects Audiobooks on CD: collection development, abridged vs unabridged, supplies, packaging, security, maintenance concerns and DVDs: technical discussion, pricing differences between DVDs and videos, collection development, security and packaging, and MP3s: what are they and what impact will they have on the AV market?
Behind-the-scenes tour of the Filmmaking School, screenings of student films and reception.
Music performed by Celtic Jam, a NC quartet specializing in traditional Irish music. Selection list handouts for developing public library music collections, in various genres such as gospel and international music, were provided as well as lists of music vendors, review sources, and websites.
Featuring three vendor panelists: Carol Thompson from Taped Editions, Guy McMullen from Brodart and Marlene Richards from Landmark and four librarian panelists: Mardi Durham from Iredell Co. PL, Kim Huskins-Webb from Washington County PL, Darla Johnson from Forsyth Co. PL and Deborah Marrs from Columbus Co. PL. Panelists discussed the pros and cons of audiocassette leasing.

Get It On Tape : a Books on
Audiocassette Workshop
Vendor representatives discussed information on their company's pricing, ordering and replacement policies; a panel of librarians discussed the merits of abridged vs. unabridged cassettes and what librarians want from vendors; librarians discussed the merits of repair vs. replacement of damaged cassettes, security issues, cataloging and processing options; hands-on sessions allowed registrants to practice hands-on repair of audiocassettes and take away a repair kit.

Directory of Audiovisual Services in North Carolina Public Libraries
The directory was revised for the 3rd time, printer and mailed out to all libraries in the state. Funded by NCLA.
A talk featuring Gene Lanier, Intellectual Freedom Committee, Cathy Stuart, Thomas Tedford and Jerry Thrasher, Cumberland County Public Library, which addressed what you should know before the censor arrives and what to do when the censor arrives.
Directory of Audiovisual Services in North Carolina Public Libraries
This was the second directory of A/V collections and services of N.C. public libraries. It included Library Overview, Staffing and Circulation, Video Services, Audio Collections, Miscellaneous Collections, Equipment, and Programming.
A presentation designed to give librarians a glimpse into the professional world of producing the works of the worlds greatest playwright. Complete with modest theatrical “trimmings”, the program addressed the complexities involved in breathing life into plays which were originally written for performance and now have become literary classics.
Subjects for discussion were: choosing a script, artistic goals, challenges of casting, design elements, budgeting the play, integrating all of the elements (actors, designers, directors, costumers and technicians) into the process and the process of lifting a page from the script and turning it into a scene. Presentors were NCSF Artistic Director Louis Rackoff and Producer Pedro Silva.

Directory of Audiovisual Services in N.C. Public Libraries
Committee members compiled statistics from all of the 101 public library systems in the state and produced a overview.
