The Community and
Junior College Section met at Wake Tech Comm College on January 29, 2002.
Members present were Peggy Quinn, Chair, Carol Freeman, Past-Chair, Keith
Burkhead, Chair-Elect, and Penny Sermons, Secretary. Absent were Laura Gorham
and Sondra Oakley, Directors. New business agenda items discussed were: The
decline in membership and suggestions/ideas to recruit and retain members
and hosting a fall 2002 workshop for our new members and other NCLA members
and library personnel. Tentative topics for the workshop include: virtual
reference, library customer service, and special library collections located
in North Carolina's community college system.
Peggy Quinn promoted membership in NCLA and the CJC section to a meeting of the Council of Community College Library Administrators' held March 8, 2002 at Wake Tech Comm College. The meeting was comprised of Library Directors of the system's 58 community colleges. The NCLA official display was present at the meeting, and NCLA brochures were distributed to the Directors to take back to their colleges.
Keith Burkhead, Chair-Elect, will attend the NCLA Executive Board meeting at Elon University and represent the CJC section. The next CJCS committee meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2002 at Wake Tech Comm College.
