Blackboard Course Content vs. Library Webpages: Why Fight? Let’s Unite!
Over the past two years, the University Libraries at UNC Greensboro have been delivering more library content directly into Blackboard. E-Reserves are now loaded into specific Blackboard courses via the Content System and a locally developed "e-Reserves Manager" Building Block. Subjectspecific databases, journals, course guides, and library liaison information are delivered to targeted Blackboard courses via Blackboard tools, AdobeFlex and Microsoft's XML Web services. Both projects will be discussed and demonstrated.

Want a Second Life? Get One!
Technology and Trends Round Table
Second Life is a virtual 3D program that integrates and builds upon many services we already use as libraries, such as self-service, collaboration, creating an experience for our users, and interactivity. Since April 2006, library services such as reference, tours, collections, art openings, performances, trainings, book discussions, and more have been in Second Life’s virtual 3D program. Corporations and organizations such as Dell, IBM, ALA, Apple, Penguin Publishers, and more also have a presence in Second Life. Presenters will discuss this model of service for adult and teen users and how it fits the State Library of North Carolina vision statement to “Use the Power of Information to Enrich Lives.”
Kelly Czarnecki and Matt Gullett (Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County) and Rhonda Trueman (Johnson & Wales University – Charlotte)

Is Library 1.0 Ready for Web 2.0?
Library 2.0 has been well defined in the literature and on the conference circuit as a library enabled for Web 2.0 technology, including customer relationship management benefits and responsibilities; however, what strides have actually been made? Who is using what technologies and how are these working together to provide a better interface for our users? Is the dis-integration of library discovery tools really providing a better user experience? These questions will be addressed and solutions will be discussed. Robert H. McDonald is the (Project Manager, Chronopolis Data Preservation Environment, San Diego Supercomputer Center, U.C. San Diego). He is responsible for the administration, policy and outreach component of the digital preservation environment and is a coordinator among Chronopolis partner nodes.

Thursday 5:30 – 6:30

Reception for members only in Room C – Food and beverages (alcoholic and non alcoholic) will be provided.

Analyzing Your Holdings to Help with Collection Development
Weeding. Accreditation. Budget Justification. Ongoing Collection Development. Hear about new electronic collection management tools like Bowker’s Book Analysis System and OCLC’s WorldCat Analysis system. Librarians will discuss how they used these tools in their own libraries to compare their collections with either a core list or with other libraries. Learn how one institution supported changes in curriculum and research focus, encouraged increased participation in faculty-assisted collection development, and prepared for their SACS accreditation.
