With conferences in both 2004 and 2005, the Committee decided:
- To not have any mid-year programming.
- To have the Chair and Vice-Chair collaborate in programming both conferences.
For the 2004 joint NCLA/SELA conference Nov. 9-13, 2004, the following issues have been discussed for programming:
- We will sponsor Counting Uses-Using Counts, a program on statistics (with presentations by three NC librarians), and their uses that should be appealing to both technical and public services librarians in all types of libraries.
- We will work with NMRT to co-sponsor a program. This topic is only starting to be explored.
- The BIG news: Stephen Abram, currently the Vice-President of the Canadian Library Association and employed by Sirsi, has agreed to speak at the conference. He is a well-known and highly-regarded speaker on technology trends. He could also address millennium student behaviors (and has an article coming out in the May 1, 2004 LJ on this topic). We need to find out whether NCLA is interested in having him as a keynote, or if those slots have already been filled. But he has marked off his calendar for this conference. He was slated to speak for TNT in 2001, but then in the post-9/11 era was not allowed to travel that Fall.
- Other speakers and topics have been discussed. We’re holding on those until after the April Board meeting to see what should be pursued.
- Many questions need to be answered regarding the program for this Fall, amongst them being: Deadlines; Time Slots- length, when, how many we should fill; coordination of programs with other units of NCLA as well as SELA; Scheduling; and Pre-conferences.
The Web pages for the group need to be updated. We will be working on changing the content for them in the coming quarter.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynne D. Lysiak
TNT Chair
