Roundtable for the Status of Women in Librarianship
September 17, 2004
Forsyth County Public Library
Jenny Barrett, Convener and Chair
Committee Membership
Due to changed circumstances at her library, Crystal Baird has resigned her
position as a director of RTSWL. Laura will call Rose Simon and Beverly
Gass for ideas for possible replacements.
NCLA/SELA Conference
Jenny announced that RTSWL will sponsor a luncheon on Wednesday during the
conference featuring Kathy Trocheck, aka Mary Kay Andrews. Since her publisher
is paying for it, RTSWL’s cost for the luncheon will be minimal.
The board asked Jenny to try to change the name of the luncheon to the “Hissy
Fit Luncheon”.
Marilyn Miller Award
The group discussed the possibility of making the award presentation during
a general session. Jenny Barrett will ask John about the possibilities,
and at which general session we can give the award. Two librarians, Linda
Stone and Kathryn Creason, were nominated for the award. Though both nominations
outlined two excellent librarians, Linda Stone was elected unanimously,
and Jenny agreed to contact her. Jenny also agreed to contact Diane Kester
regarding a check for the award.
Treasury Report
The treasury report showed $300 available, but the membership report was
unavailable.
2005 NCLA Conference Planning
RTSS sent Kathy Crow an offer to share sponsorship of a program during the
2005 session. The board discussed this possibility and the options for
theme. The board also discussed the idea of a highly visible workshop style
program possibly enlisting local authors or editors as presenters.
Further programming discussion ensued regarding receptions. Everyone agreed that the 2003 reception at Snapfingers was successful, and the board brainstormed about possible locations for 2005. Mary would look into possibilities.
The board adjourned at approximately 12pm with an agreement to meet again on February 4, 2005 at the same location.
Respectfully submitted,
Jennie Hunt, Secretary.
