The REMCo Executive Board met May 27 (conference call). REMCo has scheduled
a pre-conference, a program, and an information booth for the joint NCLA/SELA
conference in November in addition to our regular luncheon program with
a speaker. They are as follows:
- Where do we need to be: Librarians equipped
for the 21st Century Leadership
Challenge! (pre-conference to be help at the Main Library, PLCMC)
(includes Ms. Tracie Hall, ALA Office of Diversity) - Program: How to have
an event for Children's Day/Book Day = El Día
de los Niños/El Día de los Libros in your library
(Co-sponsor Carolina Chapter of REFORMA) - Information Booth during the
conference: newly formed “Carolinas
Chapter of REFORMA” and library services and programming for Latino
patrons
(Co-sponsor Carolina Chapter of REFORMA)
We have been in contact with the African American Issues Round Table in SELA and plan on co-sponsoring a program.
Ms. Robin Imperial (Wake County Public Libraries) President of the Carolina Chapter of REFORMA will be attending the July 16th NCLA Executive Board meeting. The Chapter has been formally approved by the National Chapter of REFORMA. Be sure to congratulate her and the newly elected Officers. Kathy Olsen, Vice President/President Elect (Haywood County Public Library), Susan Wright, Secretary (Durham County Library), and Linda Frank, Treasurer (Health Sciences Library, UNC – Chapel Hill)
The REMCo Newsletter was distributed. It looks Great! Many thanks to Anne Coleman (REMCo Newsletter Editor) and Robert Canida, II for their time and creativity.
The REMCo Display booth was a Success! Promoting REMCo and NCLA during the ALA Diversity Fair in Orlando on June 25 went very well. Many thanks to Wanda Brown for answering questions and handing out NCLA membership forms during the event. REMCo is still exploring ways to participate in the first Joint Conference of Librarians of Color (JCLC 2006) in Dallas, Texas from October 12-15, 2006. Let me know if you are interested, also. Looking ahead to 2005, we are interested in co-sponsoring programs in Winston-Salem. Please contact Gerald Holmes, if you have ideas for programs at the 2005 NCLA Biennial Conference!
Respectively submitted,
Gerald Holmes, Chair
