Report to the NCLA Executive Board
July 8, 2004

The PLS planning board met at the High Point Public Library on April 30, 2004. Two new members were welcomed to the council. Margaret Blanchard, chair of the Bill Roberts Award Committee; and Arthur Erickson, chair of the recently formed Genealogy Committee. This meeting enjoyed 100% attendance-a rare occurrence.

There was much discussion at this meeting concerning the upcoming Centennial Conference. Marie Spencer (Conference History Committee) and Susan Herzog (Program Committee) shared information and plans for the conference since they are both serving on conference committee. The group agreed that we would focus on having several good programs, possibly a pre-conference, along with the PLS luncheon. PLS will be awarding the Bill Roberts Award again at this year’s conference. Currently the AV committee, the Technical Services Committee and the Genealogy Committee are all planning programs.

All committee gave reports of activities and meetings. There was a discussion of an orientation for new council members similar to the one done this year for the NCLA Executive Board. Some of the items to be covered at orientation would be how to set up programs, finances, and how the Council relates to the rest of NCLA. Patrick Valentine and Mary McAfee agreed to plan to do an orientation at the first meeting after the elections.

The planning board will meet again on Friday, July 30, 2004, New Hanover Public Library, Wilmington.
