Membership Committee Executive Board Report
July 16, 2004

The committee held a meeting Wednesday, May 5, in Raleigh. At this meeting, the committee suggested that we become more involved in other organizations’ conferences/events to help promote NCLA. NCCCLRA’s conference was July 14-15 and NCLA contributed items for the registration bags as well as set up a table for information. Also, NCLA can pursue other membership opportunities: attending library staff meetings or staff days; new membership party; tabletop displays for library break rooms; new membership opportunities at NCLA-sponsored workshops with drawings.

Other membership building thoughts: discounts for on-time renewals; sections/RTs recognize membership to new members; use conference video for promotion.

NCLA’s general brochure was looked at and changes were suggested.

The committee decided to recognize long-standing memberships with NCLA. Committee met again On July 27 in Garner to sort through past membership lists. For a variety of reasons, this avenue has been decided to be unreliable in finding out exact years of membership. We have been discussing alternate ideas via emails and have yet to decide on best method.

Committee recommends that NCLA create slogan for web site, applications, and brochures. Possible conference contest—need executive board approval?

Most of this committee is also working on conference store committee and has met several times in that capacity as well.
