E L /CIVICS ONLINE: EL/Civics into Adult ESL Classes
A free, self-paced professional development opportunity for teachers and volunteers.
Help your students learn about the history and government of the United States,
become more involved in their communities, and explore the possibility of gaining
citizenship while learning English.
Four Content Courses Supporting Components:
U.S. History
Explains how historical turning points aected our country’s development and shows ways to relate historical content to what students already know.
U.S. Government
Shows the workings of the U.S. Government, explains the major documents that form the basis of the government, and makes connections between the government and students’ daily lives.
Civic Engagement
Develops strategies for increasing students’ awareness of and involvement in their communities.
Naturalization Process
Outlines skills students need to pass the citizenship interview and tests and demonstrates effective classroom practices.
PLUS:
Tutorials to strengthen basic teaching skills.
Resources to augment instruction.
Master Teacher Course to develop expertise to be a resource for other teachers.
Supplemental Content Modules to enhance content knowledge.
