Biographical Sketch of Penny Sermons,
NCLA Leadership Institute Mentor

Penny Sermons is the Learning Resources Center/Distance Learning Director, at Beaufort County Community College. As the LRC Director she responsible to the Dean of Instruction for supervising, coordinating, and promoting all activities contributing to the total operation of the College LRC. Penny is also responsible for planning, developing, and administering an effective learning resources program, which includes providing instructional and technical support for distance learning. The LRC staff includes six full-time employees and five part-time employees. Learning Resources at BCCC consists of the Library, Educational Media Graphics, and Audiovisual/Distance Learning.
Penny earned both her undergraduate degree and Masters of Library Science degree from East Carolina University. She has worked previously as a librarian at Beaufort County Community College and Martin Community College.
Penny is involved with several committees including chairing the Training Advisory Committee (TRAC) for NCLIVE and is also a member of the NCLIVE Librarians Council, NCLA, ALA, NCDLA, NCLRA, and the Library Services Training Act (LSTA) Advisory Committee. Penny serves on the Executive Board, Council of Community College Library Administrators (CCCLA),Board, Beaufort – Hyde Partnership for Children
