The William Madison Randall Library at The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for the position of University Studies Librarian. The successful candidate for this position will serve as the key liaison librarian to articulate the library’s role in UNCW’s new general education curriculum (called “University Studies”), especially as it relates to information literacy.

UNCW is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina, and is nationally recognized for its marine sciences, teaching, and research programs, and for its strengths in arts and sciences, business, education, and nursing. The University is situated on a beautiful arboretum campus located in an historic port city within five miles of the Atlantic Ocean. The University currently enrolls approximately 12,000 students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is an opportunity for a knowledgeable and energetic librarian with a strong commitment to service to assist learners and faculty in the transition to a new general education curriculum which has an information literacy requirement. This librarian will design, develop and adapt technologically innovative services to meet the information and research needs of the campus community. Duties include developing an information literacy portal, web-based tutorials, social technologies and other techniques to promote library services to students, faculty and the community. Usability testing and assessment of the impact of information literacy library services are also responsibilities of this position. This librarian teaches 1-2 sections of the LIB 101 or 103 credit courses each year as well as leading information literacy sessions for a variety of academic disciplines. As a member of the Library’s Public Services team, s/he engages in research assistance, instruction, and outreach programs, including weekday evening and weekend shifts, providing individual research assistance in person, by phone, email and chat. This librarian also contributes to planning, implementing and assessing services in these areas; assists in building library collections; and produces creative and scholarly contributions to librarianship.

REQUIREMENTS: MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program; at least two (2) years experience providing information literacy instruction in a college or university and enthusiasm for teaching; experience in web design and knowledge of emerging information and library technologies; knowledge of national standards and guidelines for information literacy instruction; commitment to developing information literacy in the undergraduate curriculum; knowledge of instructional design theory and principles; strong public service orientation; ability to lead and work in a collaborative environment; effective interpersonal, project management, and oral/written communication skills; keen interest in emerging trends in pedagogy, technology, and scholarly content creation and the ability to work a schedule which includes some evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

Preferred: Proficiency in using instructional technologies such as Jing, Captivate, and Camtasia; experience with usability testing and marketing/promotion of services; demonstrated experience with program assessment.

SALARY & BENEFITS: Commensurate with labor market for this position. 11-month contract with faculty status (lecturer, non-tenure track). Generous benefits package, including 22 days of vacation.
