School Librarian needed at St Ann Elementary

Job Title: Full time Elementary School Librarian

Library: St. Ann Catholic School, private elementary school (PK-5; 200 students)

City: located in the historic Meyers Park District of Charlotte, N.C.

Salary: Diocesan scale based on experience and qualifications

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be able to create and lead exciting library lessons through which students (Ages 4-11) gain necessary information literacy skills to become 21st century learners. An MLS or equivalent experience required.

Job Description: The mission of the school library media center is to support school curriculum and the recreational reading of students while teaching students to find and use information effectively. This position will manage the daily operations of the school library overseeing student instruction, circulation and reference services, cataloging, subscriptions, and book fairs.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following is not a comprehensive list but a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities for this position.

• Create library lessons that teach students according to the NC Essential Standards for Information and Technology.
• Create dynamic lessons that promote and encourage students to enjoy a variety of literature genres and formats.
• Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students to help them locate resources and use research techniques.
• Training of faculty and students to use online resources such as Encyclopedia Britannica and Recorded Books.
• Provide faculty with resources to support classroom curriculum.
• Provide readers advisory for students and faculty.
• Select, order, & process library materials.
• Organize book fairs.
• Manage school reading program in Accelerated Reader.
• Arrange author visits as permitted by the budget.
