NC Collection Librarian - East Carolina University
Under the direction of the Head of the North Carolina Collection, the North Carolina Reference Librarian will provide effective reference service at the department’s reference desk 8 to 12 hours a week, including, on a rotational basis, evenings and weekends. S/he will actively promote the department to professors on campus and offer instruction to classes in varied fields, as well as participate in e-mail and chat reference services. S/he edits the North Carolina Periodicals Index http://www.ecu.edu/cs-lib/ncc/scope.cfm and develops subject guides, tutorials, and other innovative promotional materials. The person in this position also administers the monthly departmental column in the local newspaper among other outreach activities, and may serve as a subject liaison to at least one academic department or program. S/he actively participates in library, university, and professional committees; engages in research and creative activity that fosters professional development and contributes to knowledge of the profession and/or North Carolina studies and undertakes other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree or international equivalent in library or information science; substantial knowledge of and experience with traditional and electronic reference materials and databases; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Web-authoring tools; strong commitment to public service; ability to work as a member of a team; ability to achieve tenure through effective job performance, scholarly publication, and service activities.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of and interest in North Carolina studies; knowledge of and interest in MARC and other cataloging and metadata standards, such as Dublin Core and Encoded Archival Description; teaching/training experience, with demonstrated skills in group and one-on-one settings; ability to set and attain goals effectively; knowledge of current issues and trends in information literacy and library marketing.Visit the Library’s web site at http://www.lib.ecu.edu for additional information.
