Motion: The nominating Committee would like to submit the following slate of candidates for the 2015 NCLA elections. Motion: Motion: On behalf of the NCLA Membership Committee, I would like to make the following motion: In accordance with the NCLA Handbook, the membership committee proposes two recipients to receive the Distinguished Library Service Award and one recipient to receive the Life Membership Award. The North Carolina Library Association Distinguished Library Service Award (Presented every two years or when deemed appropriate, to professional librarian or in memory of a deceased professional librarian. Criteria include distinguished professional library services to North Carolina, significant service or other professional contributions provided during either a short or long span of time, and service resulting in a regional or national impact on librarianship in general.) The North Carolina Library Association Life Membership Award (An award of life membership, with voting privileges, persons who are no longer actively engaged in library work.)

Motion: The NCLA Finance Committee recommends that NCLA contract with an accounting firm to conduct a review of its finances, consistent with the NCLA Constitution.

Motion: I move that NCLA conduct a virtual special meeting of the Association to pass three constitutional amendments and one by-laws amendment. 1) Change the title of the NCLA Administrative Assistant to Executive Assistant (changes approved by the Board at their July 26, 2013 meeting) 2) Remove the list of standing committees of the Board from the constitution and place it in the Executive Board Handbook (changes approved by the Board at their July 26, 2013 meeting) 3) Change the Directors-at-Large position and function (changes presented to the NCLA Board for their April 24, 2015 meeting) [See attached file for the two older sets of amendments and guidance from relevant sections of the NCLA Constitution.

Section roundtable committee: Scholarships

Motion: I move that the NCLA Executive Board amend the Scholarship Committee section of the Handbook, under “Major factors to be considered in making the awards,” to add the following statement: “Scholarship opportunities will vary depending on how much funding is available from NCLA.”

Motion: I move that the NCLA Executive Board amend the Scholarship Committee charge, number 3, in the NCLA Handbook to add the Appalachian Scholarship to the list of scholarships awarded by the Scholarship Committee. The new line should read, “To receive and review applications for the Query-Long Scholarship, the McLendon Scholarship Fund, the NCLA Memorial Scholarship, and the Appalachian Scholarship” I move that the NCLA Executive Board amend the Scholarship Committee section of the Handbook, under NCLA Scholarships Fund, to add the following statement: “The Appalachian Scholarship, for a library science student who plans to be a school library media specialist in North Carolina, is a $1000 scholarship.”
