NCLA Documents Section
Report to the Executive Board
January 16, 2004

New Officers of the Documents Section, as installed at the Biennial Conference in Winston-Salem in September 2003 are: Chair Bryna Coonin (ECU), Vice Chair/Chair Elect Beth L. Rowe (UNC-Chapel Hill), Secretary/Treasurer Beth Kaylor (UNC-Wilmington), and immediate past Chair Eileen Brown (UNC-Wilmington).

The Documents Section hosted a very informative presentation at the Biennial Conference entitled “Libraries and Information in the Age of Terrorism.” The session featured guest speaker Lee S. Strickland. Mr. Strickland is a lawyer, CIA analyst, and adjunct professor at the School of Library & Information Science at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Plans for NCLA Docs in the upcoming year include a Spring workshop in early May at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. The workshop will feature an overview and update of the State Library’s three-year project called the Access to State Government Information Initiative, as well as Part One of a projected two-part discussion on “Current Collection Development Issues in Federal Government Documents.” Part Two of the discussion is planned for the NCLA/SELA joint conference in Charlotte in November 2004.

The Documents Section is actively pursuing a name change, to better reflect the nature of documents work in the increasingly electronic environment. We will seek a spot on the agenda of the next NCLA Executive Board meeting to discuss this formally with the Board.

Respectfully submitted,

Bryna Coonin
Chair,
NCLA Documents Section
