Call for Proposals: North Carolina Library Association College and Universities Section & Community and Junior College Libraries Section Library Instruction 2.0: Brainstorming, Planning, Teaching, Assessing Conference 2008

The North Carolina Library Association College and Universities Section, the Community & Junior College Libraries Section and the Conference Planning Committee invite you to submit proposals to the Library Instruction 2.0: Brainstorming, Planning, Teaching, Assessing Conference 2008.


Proposals are invited for presentations in a variety of formats including presentations (formal, demonstrations or panel discussions) and workshops. Panel discussion sessions provide a venue for 2-3 speakers to share their work or perspective on a selected topic with the majority of the session time used to facilitate discussion with the audience. Formal presentations or demonstrations typically consist of 1-3 speakers and often present a paper or other research about the topic. Presentation time for formal presentations and panel discussions should be no more than 60 minutes including at least 10 minutes for questions from the audience.

  • Curricular Instruction
  • Assessment
  • Best Practices
  • Learning Styles
  • Distance Education
  • 1st year experience instruction /orientation
  • Plagiarism instruction
  • Copyright instruction
Hands-on workshop sessions are interactive, and should teach attendees a program or skill that they can bring back to their library. Attendees will bring laptops or other necessary resources to the workshop in order to begin/complete a sample project during the workshop. Presentation time for workshops should be no more than 3 hours. Ideas for workshops might include:
  • Engaging exercises
  • Technology
  • Prioritizing spending or employees – face to face or online
Submission Information

The deadline for proposal submission is June 16, 2008. Proposals must be submitted through the online submission form http://appserv02.uncw.edu/SelectSurveyNET/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=765I5m5.

Proposals will include a title, author(s) information, biographical statement, format, and an abstract (maximum 250 words) describing the proposal.

Proposal Review Process

We recommend you include in the proposal title and/or abstract words found on the list of presentation or workshop topics. These lists were developed to provide a structure for organizing the conference presentation/workshop schedule. Proposals will be reviewed by the CUS/CJCL Conference planning committee. Notification of accepted proposals will be provided by July 31, 2008.

Additional Information

The conference website will provide complete information about the conference including the keynote speaker, lunch program, conference schedule, registration and accommodations.

Due to budgetary considerations, it is not possible to offer a waiver of registration fees to program presenters. All presenters and co-presenters must register for the conference and are responsible for paying their own travel and lodging expenses. Note: Failure to pay the registration fee will result in the cancellation of your presentation/workshop and conference registration.
