The Executive Board of CSS met at the Graham Public Library at 12:00 p.m.
Present were Chair Carol Laing McNeil, Vice Chair Loree Kelly, Sec/Tres.
Jacky Miller, NC Book Award Representative Sally Baron, CHAPBOOK Editor
Loretta Talbert, State Youth Services Consultant Jim Rosinia, and By-Laws
Chair Claire Basney. Carol introduced incoming Membership Chair Beth Hutchison.
The treasurer reported that there was $5,800 in the fund balance, and noted income from renewed memberships.
Committee Reports:
- CHAPBOOK. Loretta announced that the spring issue was on-line, thanks to Diane Kester. She is now working on the summer issue and articles are due by the end of July.
- Membership. Beth will contact Debbie to find out what needs to be done.
- NCCBA.
Sally reported that the committee met on May 1 in Raleigh to pick the titles
for the two lists. They met again on June 19 in Mocksville to complete
the activities booklet. Beth will see if there can be a direct
link to the NCCBA lists from the Bookhive site. CSS will contribute $250 to NCCBA in the fall. - Bylaws. Claire will work on the wording for a change in voting procedures, perhaps adding a number five to section two of article seven. In addition, we will add NCCBA as a standing committee to the standing committee list, article nine, section one. Carol will ask the NCLA board about the procedure for registering changes to the CSS bylaws.
- State Library Report. Jim attended the meeting of the SRP Collaborative group in Madison WI in April. 27 member states. Theme for next summer is " Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds". Illustrator Steven Kellogg. (2006 Paws, Claws, Tails and Scales, Teens theme -- Creature Feature) PSA on public television airing this summer on TV. Jim wants libraries to report their summer stats on-line.
Old Business -- SELA/NCLA Fall Conference.
- Logo and Banner. Artist is working on logo. Jacky will call Jo Ann Rodgers about source and price of their nifty banner.
- Fund Raising at Fall Conference. We will do several raffles:
autographed books for different ages and a basket. Price of each ticket
will be one dollar, and they will also be the receipts for the money box.
Beth will
try to autograph books at Novello. Board members will contribute NC items valued at $5.00 or less for the basket. See if Deb can print the tickets. - CSS Table. Loree will be in charge of table.
- NCCBA. Sally will send a display of the books, and perhaps a Powerpoint display.
- Schedule of events. All
of our events are scheduled for Wednesday, November 10th. Patrick Jones
will do a keynote address at the breakfast at 7:30 a.m. A Baby Program
session is scheduled for 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. NC
Children's Writers panel is scheduled for 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. - Odds and Ends. Jim will bring review books for favors on the tables at the breakfast program.
New Business.

The next meeting will be held at Graham Public Library on September 13 at
12:00 noon.
