Who are These People, Anyway?

If you have ever wondered what kind of people run the show on the NCLA/Children’s Services Section Board, here are thumbnail sketches of those applying for elected positions.

Vice Chair/Chair Elect: Carol M. Laing

Ms. Laing is currently the Assistant Head of the Central Children’s Department at Forsyth County Public Library. She has been with the Forsyth County system since receiving her MLIS in 1998. As a paraprofessional, she worked at the Central North Carolina Regional Library system for over four years. Carol presently is in charge of Bylaws for the CSS.

Secretary/Treasurer: Jacky Miller

Ms. Miller has been the Youth Services Librarian for Rockingham County Public Library since 1983. Her MLS is from the University of Iowa. She has been on the board of CSS for a very l-o-n-g time, serving in this position, and has been the editor of CHAPBOOK as well.

Director: Loree Pennock

Ms. Pennock has worked for the Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center in Fayetteville, N.C. for ten years. She began as a children’s librarian at the Cliffdale Branch in 1991; she was promoted to Children’s Services Manager in 1995, and served in that capacity for four years. She is currently the Children’s Services Manager at the East Regional Branch Library.

Director: Jo Ann Rodgers

Jo Ann Rodgers has worked for the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County for 15 years. She was Manager of the Huntersville Branch for 11 years. Her current position is Manager of Children’s Services for North County Regional Library. Jo Ann received her MLS from USC. She has served as Director on the CSS board for one term.
