The Quiltmaker’s Gift

By Jeff Brumbeau

An old woman who is making quilts to give away

to the poor refuses to give a quilt to the unhappy, greedy king. Only after he gives everything away will she give one to him. For each thing that he gives away, she will sew a piece to the quilt. “As the days went by, the king gave everything away and a funny thing began to happen: he began to smile.” This is a gentle, moral tale of caring and sharing which the children will enjoy. The vibrant and detailed illustrations are stunning.

By Doreen Cronin

Farmer Brown has a problem when his cows find a typewriter in the barn and start making demands. When he refuses to give them electric blankets the cows go on strike.

This is a wonderful selection for a Reader’s Theater presentation. The illustrations by Betsy Lewin, are bright, bold, and successful in capturing the humorous tone. It will be enjoyed by all that read it.
