Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster

Written and Illustrated by Debra Frasier

Childlike drawings are used to give the added  impression that this is a story about an assignment written by a fifth grade girl. The girl, named Sage, makes a mistake and gets made fun of by the other students. She recovers from the embarrassment quite well as she uses that mistake as the idea for a character in a parade. The class pictures, vocabulary, inserts, and vocabulary sentences at the bottom of each page add to the fun and show that you can get a lot of humor out of playing with words. Next stop, PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH, by Norman Jester
