The results are in for the North Carolina Book Awards!  This year children throughout North Carolina voted for their favorite picture book and juvenile fiction book.  The award for favorite Picture Book was Hooway For Wodney Wat by Helen Lester and the winner of the Junior Book Award goes to Toronado  by Betsy Byars.  Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all the children who participated in the voting.

Mark your calendars now for the 54th NCLA Biennial Conference on October 2nd – 5th at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  CSS will be sponsoring a number of sessions, which will be covered in this issue of Chapbook by Jacky Miller.  Additional highlights of the conference will include:

the film archives and a screening of short films by students.

We also plan to have lots of fun with the following social events:

         featuring a Mariachi band

and informal conversation with NC AUTHORS.

We are also very excited that the speaker for our Opening General Session is Mercury Astronaut, Scott Carpenter.
