The results are in for the North Carolina
Book Awards! This year children
throughout North Carolina voted for their favorite picture book and juvenile
fiction book. The award for favorite
Picture Book was Hooway For Wodney Wat by Helen Lester and the winner of
the Junior Book Award goes to Toronado by Betsy Byars.
Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all the children who
participated in the voting.
Mark your calendars now for the 54th NCLA Biennial Conference
on October 2nd – 5th at the Benton Convention Center in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina. CSS will
be sponsoring a number of sessions, which will be covered in this issue of
Chapbook by Jacky Miller. Additional
highlights of the conference will include:
the film archives and a screening of
short films by students.
We
also plan to have lots of fun with the following social events:
featuring a Mariachi band
and informal conversation with NC
AUTHORS.
We
are also very excited that the speaker for our Opening General Session is
Mercury Astronaut, Scott Carpenter.
