CITY OF BRENTWOOD, TENNESSEE

The City of Brentwood (population 36,000) located in the Nashville Metropolitan area (population 1.4 million) is accepting applications for the position of Library Director. The Brentwood Library is recognized as the premier community library in the State of Tennessee with a state-of-the-art facility and technology, an extensive collection totaling 160,000 items, and a focus on innovative programs and services.

The Brentwood Library operates as an integral department of City government with the Director reporting to the City Manager. The annual operating budget is $2.05 million with over 90% of the funding provided by the City. The Library is opened 66 hours, 7 days a week. There are 12 fulltime and 50 part-time positions. The Director also reports to and works closely with support groups including the Library Board, the Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library.

The City is looking for someone with effective leadership and communication skills and the vision to move the Brentwood Library forward with continuous improvement so that the Library remains relevant to the intellectual needs of the community ten years from now. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in using the available resources cost effectively, motivating subordinates to achieve objectives, implementing new technology and programs, and providing responsive service.

At a minimum, candidates must have a Master's Degree in Library or Information Science with at least five years of progressively responsible service in a library including activity oversight and development, supervisory experience, fiscal oversight, etc. The starting annual salary is $65,000 to $81,000 depending on experience.
