Leadership Institute: The Program
October 26-30, 2008
The Summit at Haw River State Park, NC
The theme for this year’s Institute is “Transforming the Library Customer Experience.” Through a variety of hands-on learning experiences, participants will learn and apply leadership skills to transform the service experiences of customers who use libraries and library resources, as well as the staff and employees who design and deliver engaging library service experiences.
The Track I Leadership Institute will encourage 30 new and emerging leaders in North Carolina public, academic and special libraries to expand their thinking and develop their skills regarding the role, contribution, and value they provide library customers, employees, communities, and other stakeholders (including funding partners).
The Track II Leadership Institute will energize 15 current directors of public, academic and special libraries in North Carolina to envision the leadership roles they will embrace and skills they will demonstrate for others in order to build a high performance library where the transformational power of “customer service experiences” is at work.
A special feature of the 2008 Leadership Institute is the active involvement of “Mentors” (active or retired “legends” with the NC library community) who are to be recruited and support program delivery by assisting with small group learning exercises.
Mark Livingston of Transformational Library Partners, LLC in Charlotte, NC will lead design and development of both tracks of learning and will co-facilitate the Leadership Institute curriculum in October with members of the Program Committee and State Library team.
