Tuesday, October 6         (1:30 – 4:30)
 
**Leadership: It Starts with You, But It’s Not About You
 
Mark Livingston and Kem Ellis  - In this first part of a two-part program (presentation followed by panel discussion and dinner), participants and facilitators will showcase results of the Track 2 learning strategy from the October 2008 NCLA Leadership Institute.  This session focuses on the key concepts and tools presented during the Leadership Institute experience, including the Learning Strategy Map.

**Transforming the Library Customer Experience
 
Mark Livingston and Kem Ellis  - In this second part of a two part program (panel discussion and dinner preceded by presentation),  Track 2 NCLA Leadership Institute participants will describe how key concepts and tools were applied during the Post-Institute Experience to “transform the library customer experience”.  Specific benefits and lessons learned from the Leadership Institute Experience will be discussed.

**TGIM: Enjoy Your Job, Enjoy Your Life
 
Jane Bozarth, Ed. D., NC Office of State Personnel/HRD Group  - So often we focus on the negatives and tasks we don’t enjoy.  This program helps participants identify the things about work they enjoy and find satisfying, look at ways of creating more of those items, and develop skill in recognizing and appreciating small accomplishments and savoring small successes.

**Assessment Planning for Libraries
 
Dr. Larry White, East Carolina University  -  It is critical in today’s competitive service environment that every organization has an effective assessment plan, especially when the results of assessment are becoming more critical in strategic decision making and in justifying/maximizing organizational performance and impact. Developing effective assessment plans provide organizations with the strategic information and evidence necessary to address organizational accountability and decision making needs. However, there are many challenges to implementing an effective assessment plan. This presentation will provide an overview of the strategies of assessment plan development and the most frequent challenges in implementing assessment plans.  An emphasis on the alignment of the assessment plan to the organization will also be provided.

**Preview of the 2010 NCLA Leadership Institute
 
Mark Livingston and Kem Ellis  -  In this presentation/question-answer session Mark Livingston and Kem Ellis, co-facilitators of the 2008 NCLA Leadership Institute will share the Tract 1 and Tract 2 Learning Strategy Maps, curriculum and goals for the 2010 leadership Institute Experience.

**Loyalty Leadership in Action!
 
Mr. Gary Fly, CEO of Freeway Foods  - In this high energy presentation Mr. Gary Fly, CEO of Freeway Foods and owner of 36 successful Waffle Houses in North Carolina, will share the “loyalty leadership” principles he uses to create and grow enthusiastic customers and employees “who keep coming back for more”.  Gary was a featured speaker at the 2008 NCLA Leadership Institute and is back-by popular demand to illustrate how concepts behind the “Waffle House Experience” can be used by libraries to engage, excite and delight customers!
