(AND Were Afraid Your Patrons Would Ask)
This day-long pre-conference will focus on Readers’ Advisory skills and strategies and will feature noted Readers’ Advisory experts Nancy Pearl, Robert Burgin, and Duncan Smith. Cost includes all materials and lunch, which will feature North Carolina author Michael Parker.
10:00 am – 4:00 pm Staff Training – Make it the Place to Be!
This program will emphasize tools and techniques for conducting an effective needs assessment, offer practice conducting one, and provide everything needed to use this tool on the job. Participants will learn what to ask and who to ask in order to better focus the content of training. Participants will leave with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct a useful needs assessment and compose learning objectives for designing training.
10:00 am – 4:00 pm Survey Says! How to Conduct Surveys
How can library staff conduct surveys that are statistically significant? Are online surveys legitimate and, if so, what's the best online survey to use? The answers to these and many more questions will be covered in this one-day class.

1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Oh, The Places You'll Go! Streaming Audiobooks Any Time, Any Place
This half-day presentation will introduce libraries to the concept of streaming audiobooks; discuss vendors and their products; and examine the budget alternatives, benefits and necessary equipment for this new technology. Whether to purchase individually or as a consortium will also be addressed.
