| In an era of constant change, libraries face highly competitive knowledge environments. Many librarians assume the same range of services and approaches that have always served them well should continue as their core programs. However, library administrators, staff and trustees have a responsibility to ensure that in positioning for the future, their institutions carefully consider the impact of major social and economic changes. Those libraries that simply "keep on keeping on" will inevitable lose relevance, patrons and financial support.
