Presidents' Celebration Luncheon
featuring Dr. Robert Martin, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services

All registered conference participants, including our vendors, are invited to this major event celebrating the Centennial of the North Carolina Library Association. The first NCLA conference opened in Charlotte exactly 100 years ago on November 11, 1904. Past presidents of NCLA will be recognized. The current presidents of NCLA and SELA, as well as the presidents of the American Library Association and the Canadian Library Association will offer greetings. Presidents of the other southeastern state library associations are also invited to attend.

Featured speaker will be Robert S. Martin, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services in Washington, DC. Dr. Martin, who holds a PhD in Library Science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, has been IMLS director since his appointment by President George W. Bush in 2001. He was Director of the School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Women's University from 1999 to 2001 and Director of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission from 1995 to 1999. The IMLS is an independent Federal grant-making agency dedicated to creating and sustaining a nation of learners by helping libraries and museums serve their communities.
