Robin Boltz, a library instructor at Creedmoor Elementary School in Creedmoor, NC will lead the session on the topic of Information Literacy and will incorporate research techniques used by elementary school students using technology to more fully develop a personal responsibility for individual learning.

Dr. Robert Burgin

Dr. Burgin will present the survey findings of a recent poll of North Carolina librarians on the future of the profession. This session and the survey are sponsored by the Commission on the Future of Libraries and the Book as directed by NCLA.

Angela F. Ballard

Ms. Ballard, from the North Carolina State University Libraries, will present the view that an on-going program of technology training for staff is critical to an organization’s ability to adapt. The session will highlight successful strategies utilized at North Carolina State.

Thursday 5:15-6:00 Academic Library Outreach to the Community

This poster session will feature a formula developed by one academic library for designing workshops with the purpose of showcasing library resources, establishing community contacts, and maintaining the public perception of librarians as information experts. Join these staff members from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.

Friday 10:00-10:30 Serials Subscription Transfer: Vendor Consolidation
Terry B. Hill

The serials/acquisitions department at the Davis Library (UNC-CH) used 3 major vendors for print subscriptions until the summer of 2003. Breaking the tradition of assigning titles to vendors based on country of origin, the goal of this project was to place each publisher’s titles with a single vendor. Come explore the process and ideas used to make this transition.


Friday 1:00-1:30 Campus Wide Week of Welcome (WOW)
Amy Burns

Campus wide orientation tours (Week of Welcome) at UNC-Charlotte featured the theme “Discover Bounty in the Library.” Staff members, dressed as pirates led library tours using treasure maps to demonstrate library research. Bounty was awarded throughout the tours, including a dollars-off coupon to be used for overdue fines.
