Join us for an in-depth look at one librarian’s experiences of beginning two wildly successful book clubs at her public library, not to mention the book clubs she has initiated in (an out of) the high school media center where she now works. Watch the video of Teresa Brantley’s award winning Mock Newbery Book Club members caught in the midst of an articulate debate. Find out how this book club started for middle schoolers, naturally led her to create a Mock Printz book club for high schoolers. You will leave this program wanting to make a mockery of a book club yourself!
Teresa Brantley is a lively and energetic speaker and an expert on all sorts
of book clubs. In 1999, she served on the National Newbery Committee, which
led her to begin her own Mock Newbery Book Club at the Eva Perry Library of
the Wake County Public Library system. Her book club was so successful that
its members won a trip to an American Library Association National Conference.
From her Mock Newbery Book Club came a popular Printz Book Club for older (young)
readers. Currently, Teresa is continuing to feed her passion for books and
book clubs at Middle Creek High School in Wake County. After 14 years teaching
in middle schools, and 12 years in the public library, Teresa is now a Media
Specialist with the public schools. She received her B. A. from Duke University
and her MLIS from UNC-CH.
