• CIPA - Library community experienced a big win with a unanimous decision on May 31, 2002.
• ALA Development office has achieved success in it's fundraising efforts. A gift grant of $1,750,000 from a private sector, non-vendor organization. The Campaign for America's Libraries will receive $1,250,000 over five years, and $750,000 will go to RUSA to manage a financial literacy initiative.
• Keith Michael Fiels was named ALA Executive Director, beginning work on July, 31, 2002
• Approved the FY 2003 ALA Budgetary Ceiling of $49, 721,383
• ALA/APA Budgetary Ceiling of $199, 750
• Patriot Act - On May 30, 2002, Attorney General John Ashcroft made sweeping changes to FBI directives on domestic investigations of potential terriost activities. ALA has been meeting with legal advisors about the implications of the new guidelines and the relationship to the Patriot Act.
