Membership Committee Report
Executive Board Meeting
January 25, 2002

The membership committee will be focusing on retention, reclamation, and recruitment of NCLA members. Some challenges that we are facing are the loss of school librarians to our membership base; the failure of membership services in the last year; the lack of an aggressive membership drive; the retention of members who received little/no compensation for their dues last year; and the need to identify potential members and methods to recruit these new members.

The committee will be considering and putting forth new and old ideas to accomplish the above tasks, including but not limited to such ideas as creating an annual report stating NCLA's accomplishments of the previous year; making NCLA more visible within the library communities; reinstating the membership directory for networking purposes; targeting library groups such as Friends of the Libraries; targeting librarians by type/area of interest; and selecting NCLA members of institutions and sending recruitment information directly to them rather than a general mailing.

Section/Roundtable Chairs: We would like to have a name and contact information of a representative from your group who can serve as a liaison to the Membership Committee.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert Canida, Co-Chair
